Our Story
Cedar Ridge Hiking Co. was founded in 2012 by Marcus Thompson, a former park ranger who spent over a decade working in Canada's national parks. After witnessing countless visitors struggle to connect meaningfully with the wilderness due to lack of proper guidance and knowledge, Marcus envisioned a company that would bridge the gap between adventure seekers and authentic wilderness experiences.
What started as weekend guided hikes for small groups of friends quickly evolved into a full-service adventure company. Our first official expedition took place in Banff National Park with just four participants. Word spread quickly about our unique approach combining safety, education, and genuine passion for Canada's natural heritage.
Today, we've grown into a team of certified wilderness professionals who have guided over 2,500 adventurers through some of Canada's most remote and breathtaking landscapes. From the rugged coastlines of Newfoundland to the towering peaks of British Columbia, we continue to uphold our founding principle: every person deserves to experience the transformative power of wilderness connection.
Our commitment to sustainable tourism and Indigenous partnerships has earned us recognition from Parks Canada and the Canadian Tourism Commission. We're not just a hiking company – we're stewards of Canada's natural legacy, dedicated to preserving these incredible landscapes for future generations.
